On the 24th of July we celebrate Pioneer Day. We remember the early mormon pioneers who traveled across the plains into the Salt Lake Valley years ago. In 2005 our church in the Simi Valley area walked approximately 3 miles pulling authentic wooden handcarts to get a taste of what those rugged people had to endure. It was a hot day and many of us had the modern convenience of comfortable shoes, that lessened some of the pain, but at the end of the day we were all pretty dirty and tired. We could barely imagine going up to 20 miles a day for weeks and months battling fatigue, hunger, and the elements. All in all, it was a great experience that gave us a real appreciation for all those who have gone before us, and Jayden even got his picture in the local paper.
